Welcome:To Capital Funds Projects

The Capital's Fund Program (CFP) is a grant funded by Housing and Urban Development (HUD) for the modernization and development of public housing that is outside the scope of routine maintenance.

The programs implemented during this reporting and fiscal year are as follows:

CFP TX59P007-500 FFY 2000 - $1,805,931.00

Special projects that were realized with funds from the 2000 grant were the construction of basketball courts and playground equipment at Citrus Gardens . The Brownville Housing Authority contracted with the Tenant Association Council for the painting of soffits and doors at Poinsettia Housing Development. Both the Tenant Association Council and CFP staff acquired the needed experience in complying with expected HUD regulations. The work performed was of good quality, the inspections conducted encountered minimal findings and the Council was more than cooperative in correcting deficiencies. The working relationship between the Council and the BHA has made it possible for this partnership to continue with future contracts which will benefit both organizations.

Removal and replacement of interior flooring at Linda Vista Housing Development was accomplished via contract with Brownsville International Carpets. Window replacement at all 54 units at Linda Vista was also completed during the month of September via Force Account staff.

CFP TX59P007-501 FFY 2001 - $1,842,370.00

The Housing Authority contracted with Stanford Knowles for compliance of 504 renovations at all housing developments and the parking area at Citrus Annex and Buena Vida. Previous surveys and action plans had identified the need to address the parking problems, which was accomplished during this reporting period. This investment improved the aesthetics of the developments immediately, but more importantly will go a long way in insuring the safety of the parking area.

At the Citrus Annex, the storage rooms were completed for Section A of the complex. Other projects that were completed with the 2001 funds were the installation of kitchen cabinets at Linda Vista. The renovation of lobby area and managers office is another project being accomplished with these funds.

In addition to managing the Capital Fund Program, the staff also values the safety of our Force Account employees. The employees meet on a monthly basis to discuss safety concerns. The CFP Coordinator provides safety training to minimize accidents and avoid potential hazards within the department.
