Family Self-Sufficiency Program



What is the Family Self-Sufficiency Program?


The Family Self-Sufficiency (FSS) Program is designed to help families accomplish economic self-sufficiency by connecting families with the appropriate support services and resources in our community.


The Brownsville Housing Authority initiated its FSS program in 1998 under the Boot Strap Program. We have since graduated 65 FSS Clients. Clients graduate from the program once they complete the 3 goals they establish in the Individual Training Service Plan.  We currently have 84 Housing Choice Voucher participants, 21 Public Housing Clients and 10 Homeownership FSS Participants.   


Who Qualifies?


To be eligible for the family self-sufficiency program you must be:


Receiving public housing and housing voucher (Section 8) assistance through the Brownsville Housing Authority

Willing to set attainable employment and /or education goals

Willing to become economically self-sufficient

Be at least 18 years of age


How do I join the FSS Program?


To join the Family Self-Sufficiency Program you must fill out an application and return it to the F.S.S. Coordinators.  (insert application link)
